Lecturer, Department of Sociology and Sustainable Development
ferdouse.dssd@puc.ac.bdI consider myself as a dedicated and self-motivated individual with a passion for Sociology. My professional journey (part-time) began in June 2019 when I was a second-year BSS (Honors) student. I joined the Johns Hopkins University Center for Communication Programs (JHUCCP) as a Research Assistant in the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Team for the USAID Ujjiban Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) project. Over the course of more than three years, I conducted various qualitative and quantitative research tasks, including in-depth interviews (IDIs), key informant interviews (KIIs), focus group discussions (FGDs), and survey administration. I also developed research tools, performed data analysis using the Most Significant Change Method (MSC), collected data using KoboToolbox, and contributed to literature reviews and report writing. This role significantly enhanced my expertise in research methodologies, social behaviour analysis, and program evaluation. Simultaneously, I contributed to the Bangladesh Childhood Injury Prevention Project at the Diabetic Association of Bangladesh Centre for Health Research and Implementation (BADAS-CHRI) from January to July 2021. As a Translator, I worked on translating qualitative narratives, including IDIs and observations, which deepened my understanding of public health research and policy implications. In August 2021, I transitioned into another role at BADAS-CHRI, joining the Perinatal Care Project as a Translator. Over the next two and a half years, I translated and analysed qualitative research data, including key informant interviews (KIIs), in-depth interviews (IDIs), focus group discussions (FGDs), and observational findings. This experience allowed me to further refine my research skills and contribute to impactful health studies addressing maternal and neonatal care in Bangladesh. Having completed my BSS (Honors) and MSS (Masters) degrees in Sociology from the University of Chittagong, a prominent public university of Bangladesh, I started my full-time professional journey as a Lecturer in the Department of Sociology and Sustainable Development in Premier University, Chittagong from March 03, 2024. In this role, I have been teaching and designing courses on various sociological subjects, including Fundamentals of Sociology, Social Structure, Globalization, Sociology of Health and Medicine, Gender and Development, Anthropology and Government and Politics. Additionally, I serve as a batch adviser, mentoring students and guiding them in their academic and research endeavours.
